1998 Fishing Journal

Saturday, June 13th

Had such a good time fishing moving water on Friday, I decided it might just be the right time of year to try out Douglas Creek in southern Wyoming. This creek is about the same size as the Yampa River and holds some nice browns and Rainbows that come up from the North Plate.

I fished it for the first time in early July 1997 and the water was already too low. Well, this year the water looked great, however, it is Wyoming and the wind was blowing a steady 35-mph with gust to 60 mph. What a challenge! There were whitecaps on the creek the wind was blowing so hard. I was able to fish some runs in the trees and picked-up some nice fish. Walked about a mile down stream from the parking lot and fished my way back to the truck. This is a very healthy creek. I caught 4 fish in the 16 to 17 inch ranges. The two Rainbows and two Browns I caught about a dozen browns and Rainbows in the 12-inch range and two dozen browns in the 6 to 9 inch range. Need to fish this creek when the wind is not blowing like a hurricane. Was having the most success with a #14 gold beadhead prince
